We had the privilege of transforming the attic of an Edwardian mansion block near Regent’s Park, London, into a breathtaking loft apartment that blends historic architecture with contemporary design. The project involved restoring the original steel trusses, adding a new mezzanine level, and reimagining the turret as a unique wet room, accessed through hidden wall panelling and a secret staircase.
The design philosophy created by the architect was minimalist and refined, with a focus on a carefully curated material palette. Natural oak flooring was chosen to conceal underfloor heating, eliminating the need for bulky radiators and allowing the space to remain open and uncluttered. High-level air-conditioning slots were seamlessly integrated, maintaining the sleek aesthetic. In the bathrooms, slim porcelain stone tiles unify the sloping roof’s angles, while custom Corian washbasins and a sculptural marble sink in the turret bathroom add sophisticated, functional artistry to the space.
This exceptional loft apartment was featured in Modern Residences and awarded Archello’s Best of 2020, along with being showcased in several prominent international design magazines
